About Me

Based near Killarney, Co Kerry, my name is Joanne O’Shea. I am a very passionate and caring, fully qualified and registered Advanced Equine Veterinary Nurse (AnScVN, PgCertAVN), Equine Physical Therapist, Equine Nutritional Advisor and Electrophysical Therapist. I am also currently studying a Postgraduate Diploma in Equine Osteopathy (PgDipEO)

I have extensive knowledge and understanding of all animals, particularly the horse. I am a lifelong horse owner, rider and caregiver, with a depth of the most up-to-date evidence-based equine knowledge, and vast experience as a result of this.

Having been born and raised on a dairy farm, I have always been surrounded by all sorts of animals, including horses, although I went on to pursue a career as a pharmacy technician in my earlier working life; a role I fulfilled for many years.

However, my passion for horses kept on calling me, which led me to return to full time education embarking on many years of extensive and rigorous retraining, in order to help horses.

During my professional training as an Advanced Veterinary Nurse, I completed externships at Fethard Equine Hospital, Troytown Equine Hospital and Ballybrown Equine Clinic, where I gained extensive hands-on practical experience in all aspects of equine veterinary care.

This work experience, coupled with my pharmaceutical experience and my equine education, proved invaluable putting me in a very unique and valuable position of being able to confidently and correctly advise on every aspect of equine veterinary care, manual therapy, rehabilitation, nutrition and management strategies, using a holistic approach.

I provide a comprehensive range of equine therapeutics, including a wide range of Manual Therapy Techniques, Stretching & Mobilisation, Prehabilitation, Post-injury Rehabilitation, Exercise Prescription, Nutritional Advice and Electrophysical Therapies.

With cutting edge technology at my disposal, I use this to compliment veterinary care, enhance performance and promote natural healing, in a pain-free, non-invasive way.

I have a keen interest in equine lameness & gait analysis and am passionate about restoring your equine athlete to normal function, with the mindset that the body, the mind and the spirit are inherently connected and that dysfunction in every aspect of the body must be addressed, in order for full body health to be restored, all through the animal’s own natural healing ability.

This is achieved by focusing on the primary cause of dysfunction, rather than concentrating solely on the symptoms.

I am a fully insured practitioner in all modalities, and I am IRVAP certified and Garda vetted. I also pride myself on always staying up to date with continuing professional development (CPD) and I believe that learning should be a life-long process.

I am very eager to help my clients and you need look no further for all your horse’s musculoskeletal and holistic needs!
