Horses with musculoskeletal injuries have poor postural stability and poor balance control, with increased postural sway and incoordination. For such cases, I may use balance pads during a therapy session with your horse.
Balance pads are an additional evidence-based tool, to support physical therapy, helping to improve body awareness.
I may use them for proprioception and muscle activation, in order to stimulate and activate deeper stabiliser muscles, improve core stability and to awaken related nerves and proprioceptive sensors, by providing an unstable surface, that challenges balance.
While standing on this unstable surface, your horse will need to make many small adjustments to their posture, utilising their core stability muscles, in order to remain as stable as possible.
If you think your horse could benefit from the use of Balance Pads as part of a therapy session, we would love to hear from you!
Let us give your horse a voice!
